Stone massage involves the placement of warm or cool stones on a person's body and/or the movement of hot stones over a person's body. Carollanne Crichton, LMT, who teaches stone massage, reported that both clients and therapists have found stone massage to be "five times more relaxing than ordinary massage." The application of heated stones in combination with massage may increase the body's detoxification process.
I use metamorphic stones in my practice. They have been hand-selected from nature and have not been mechanically tumbled, so they retain their natural shape and properties. The geomagnetic charge of the stones is thought to correct imbalances in the electromagnetic field.
What to Expect from Your Stone Massage Session
A stone massage session begins with the client laying under a bath sheet towel on the massage table. Warm stones are placed directly on the skin in areas such as the back, the abdomen, even between the toes. Then hot stones are used for active massage, gliding over the skin. As for Swedish massage, after a stone massage you should feel very relaxed and refreshed.
